Start Here
- Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 launch is the cleanest signal this morning. The headline is not just better coding. It is better calibration — more willingness to flag uncertainty and catch its own mistakes. That matters more than a few benchmark points.
- Fortune 20 pressure for $1B of AI opex savings is the enterprise demand signal. Whether that specific target is realistic is almost secondary. The important part is the mandate has moved from experimentation to budget-line expectation.
- Garry Tan’s “knowledge wiki as daily test harness” post reinforces the compounding engineering thesis. Durable memory plus fast root-cause loops is starting to look like a competitive moat, not a workflow preference.
- Bill Gurley on capital warfare is the right reminder for this market. In AI, even disciplined operators get dragged onto the field. The trick is knowing when scale is strategy and when it is self-deception.
- Jason Cohen reopening the “opportunity is in the middle” debate is useful framing for BM and Wick. The middle market may be exactly where AI adoption is painful enough to matter but not yet fully captured.

Fresh unread scan for
dan.wick@blankmetal.ai failed again. gog gmail search --account dan.wick@blankmetal.ai 'is:unread newer_than:1d' --max 10 --no-input returned invalid_grant / invalid_rapt, so inbox state is not trustworthy as of Friday, May 29, 2026.The stronger BM signal came from outside the inbox anyway: the market is asking for measurable savings, not AI theater. That fits BM best when the work is tied to operating leverage, not generic enablement.
From
MEMORY.md, the active BM surface area still looks too broad: Rally, Tungsten, Great Hill, Sentinel, Orbis, Care Providers of Minnesota, and HR&A are all open loops. The move today is likely follow-through and narrowing, not new top-of-funnel.Munger Observer
Opportunity Cost: the open task list is carrying stale March items. That is attention debt.
Margin of Safety:
munger-latest.md is stale — dated May 1, 2026 — but the advice still lands: preserve slack so one surprise does not consume the day.Personal Thought
This morning feels less like “new capabilities” and more like “new expectations.” The models are improving, but the bigger shift is that operators are now expected to turn those gains into systems, savings, and repeatable judgment.
